Two road safety organisations warn of road safety budget cuts

A report published last week concluded that austerity measures were putting lives at risk. The report by the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) said that despite substantial falls in road deaths between 2007-2010, there had been an increase in the first six months of 2011, and the number of road deaths in the UK was expected to increase for the first time since 2003.

DH secondhand smoke campaign

Department of Health launch campaign to raise awareness of risks to children of secondhand smoke You may already have heard about the government drive to discourage parents and carers from smoking around their children. Technically, passive smoking doesn’t fall into CAPT’s remit, as the direct health risks aren’t classed as an unintentional injury. However, we’re pleased to get behind this one, as smoking is one of the biggest causes of fatal fires in the home.
