Stay One Step Ahead toolkit

Stay One Step Ahead (SOSA) is an evidence-based multi-agency home safety programme that has been co-produced by researchers, practitioners and parents. It comprises standardised home safety education and advice, and referral and signposting to additional support.

Research by Nottingham University shows it is effective in making homes safer when implemented as a whole programme.

If you are interested in commissioning SOSA, this toolkit provides all the necessary commissioning tools and delivery resources in one place to enable effective home safety promotion to be provided to families whose children are at risk of injury.

By increasing the delivery of effective home safety promotion, we can ensure children’s lives are not blighted by preventable injury and that they grow up to reach their full potential.

The Materials were made possible thanks to National Lottery players and the A Better Start programme. A Better Start is a ten-year (2015-2025), £215 million programme set-up by The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK. The Materials aim to improve the life chances of babies and very young children by changing the way services are commissioned and delivered, involving parents as equal partners.
