Who We are

The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) is the UK’s leading charity working to reduce the number of children and young people killed, disabled or seriously injured in accidents.

We exist because accidents are a leading cause of death and serious injury for children and young people.

Many of these accidents can be prevented.

Our priority is to undertake child accident prevention activities that reduce serious injury rates among all children and young people and, in particular, reduce the marked inequalities between richer and poorer children.

We give free child safety advice to parents and carers, support professionals working with children and families, support senior professionals and policymakers and advise the government and organisations on child safety.

We want children to lead active, healthy lives. Children need to experiment, play and take risks. But there’s a balance to be struck. No parent wants their child disabled or killed in an accident that can be prevented.
